The Scout's Cabin

The Scout's Cabin was first built in Lækjarbotn in 1920 by the Væringjar Scout Club. It was the first scout cabin built in Iceland facilitating outdoor activities. Initially, it went by the name of the Væringjar Scout Cabin but was later known as the Lækjarbotn Cabin. It features main walls constructed of turf and stone. It was relocated to the Árbær Open Air Museum in 1962 and was renovated in consultation with the scout movement in 1991. The Væringjar Society was established in 1913 by Friðrik Friðriksson in association with the Y.M.C.A.
